Bharat Ratna should be conferred on Dr. Manmohan Singh: MP Vikram Sahney
Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, has called for India’s highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna, to be conferred upon former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in recognition of his transformative contributions to India’s economic and social progress, including initiating liberalization policies, pro-poor initiatives, and economic stewardship that safeguarded India from global crises.
Dr. Sahney stated that Dr. Manmohan Singh was the Architect of Modern India’s Economy. The economic reforms of 1991 transformed India from an era of the license raj to a globally integrated powerhouse.
Dr. Sahney further noted that Dr. Manmohan Singh was the Champion of Progressive Legislations, such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), 2005; the Right to Education Act, 2009; the Right to Information Act, 2005; the National Food Security Act, 2013; the mandatory 2% CSR for companies, 2013; and the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, among others.
Dr. Sahney described Dr. Manmohan Singh as a true statesman of unmatched integrity and vision. His contributions extend beyond economic reforms, as his leadership fostered stability, inclusivity, and global respect for India. He epitomizes humility, intellect, and dedication to the nation. It is high time we honor this great son of India with the Bharat Ratna. Dr. Manmohan Singh’s life and work are a source of inspiration, and his legacy will continue to guide India’s progress for generations to come.
