Sarahgarhi Memorial inaugurated in Firozpur: MP Vikram Sahney
Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney has expressed his deep satisfaction and pride on the occasion of the inauguration of the Sarahgarhi Memorial in Firozpur by cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur in which Dr. Sahney granted rupees 50 Lakhs.
Dr. Sahney, stated that the Battle of Sarahgarhi stands as a timeless epitome of bravery, valour, and sacrifice, symbolizing the spirit of patriotism and courage and demanded from the government to introduce a chapter on the Battle of Saragarhi in school text books to teach students about the “unparalleled and exemplary battle”
Dr. Sahney said that of this significant memorial, which will forever remind us of the heroic deeds of those who fought with unwavering dedication. It is an honor to be part of preserving this important chapter of our history for future generations.
Dr. Sahney informed that the Sarahgarhi Memorial is dedicated to commemorating the valor of the 21 Sikh soldiers of 36 Sikh Regiment who laid down their lives defending the Saragarhi Fort in Wazirstan (now Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, in Pakistan) on 12 September 1897, which was attacked by nearly 10,000 Afghans.
