Expresses Concerns over the delays in Construction of Ongoing Projects
Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Member of Parliament from Punjab informed that Sh. Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways have informed against a query raised by him that ministry has allocated ₹22,160 crore for 38 highway projects spanning 825 kilometres in Punjab over the last three years. The projects include key corridors like the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra (DAK) Expressway and the Amritsar-Bathinda highway, which are set to boost regional trade and development.
Dr. Sahney also informed that four major highway projects earlier abandoned are being retendered on the basis 80% land accusation by the state.
Dr. Sahney also expressed concern over the delays in the construction progress of the ongoing projects in Punjab, the average construction progress of the 42 ongoing projects in Punjab is 48%.
Dr. Sahney urged the central ministry to ensure better project execution and timely completion to avoid cost overruns and public inconvenience.
Dr. Sahney also said that out of 38 projects, 17 national projects worth ₹11,017 crore have been included in the annual plan of 2024-25.
