MP Vikram Sahney Seeks Intervention of Finance Minister for Rural & Market Development Fees (RDF & MDF)

Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from Punjab and Member of Parliamentary Consultative Committee on Finance today called upon Finance Minister of India Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman requesting her intervention to resolve the issue of payment of Rural Development Fund and Market Development Fees for Punjab.Dr. Sahney re-iterated that Punjab cannot be compared with other states as it procures highest paddy of 173 Lakh MTs and wheat of 125 lakh MTs per annum. “Punjab had wide network of 64,724 Kms rural link roads connecting to Mandis for transportation of agri produce by the farmers which needs to be maintained and upgraded from time to time by Mandi Board from RDF.” Dr. Sahney added

Dr. Sahney also said that Punjab had 19,36 Mandis, the largest in the country for procurement and storage of agri produce and mandi Board is responsible for all the operational expenditure and maintenance of Mandis.

Dr. Sahney requested Finance Minister to convene a meeting of all the concerned at the Centre and the Punjab state for early resolution of the issue as according to Punjab government Rs. 6,771 Crores is still pending on account of RDF and Rs, 1,516 Crores on account of MDF.
