MP Vikram Sahney demands Vijay Diwas Victory picture to be displayed in the Parliament
On the occasion of Vijay Diwas of the iconic victory of India and liberation of Bangladesh Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney demanded that the historic photograph of the picture depicting the surrender of General Niyazi to Lt. General Jagjit Singh Arora on 16th December 1971 should be displayed in the gallery of new parliament building.
Dr. Sahney stated that the 1971 Liberation War marked a defining moment in history, when the valiant efforts of the Indian Armed Forces, alongside the resolve of the people of Bangladesh (then East Pakistan), culminated in the creation of an independent Bangladesh. The war, which witnessed the largest military surrender in recorded history with over 93,000 Pakistani troops laying down arms, symbolized India’s unwavering commitment to democracy, human rights, and justice.
Dr. Sahney informed that in this war over 3,000 Braveheart Indian soldiers were martyred, whose sacrifices paved the way for peace and the establishment of a new nation.
Dr. Sahney said that the photograph capturing this historic moment, when Lt. General Jagjit Singh Arora accepted the Instrument of Surrender from General Niazi, is a powerful testament to the courage, strategy, and leadership of the Indian Armed Forces. “This iconic image is not just a symbol of military victory but also of India’s resolve to stand up for the oppressed and fight for justice on the global stage. It deserves to be prominently displayed in national institutions to inspire future generations,” Dr. Sahney added
