Socio-Economic Relations with Africa

  • Hosted a gala reception, ‘Friends of South Africa’, in honour of Dr. Jacob Zuma (President of Republic of South Africa) at Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi on his maiden visit to India as President from June 3 to June 5, 2010. Vikramjit Sahney also presented remarks on Indo-South Africa relationship as Chairman, Indo-South Africa Business Forum on behalf of FICCI, during interactive session chaired by Dr. Jacob Zuma.
  • Played a pivotal role in sponsoring and hosting various seminars and conferences during the visit of eminent dignitaries from South Africa such as Ms. Phumzile Mlambo Ngcuka (Deputy President), Ms. Maite Mashabane (Minister for International Relations and Cooperation), Dr. Lindiwe Nonceba Sisulu (Housing Minister), Mr. Mandisi Mpahlwa (Minister of Trade and Industry), Ms. Sbu Ndebele (Minister of Transport), Ms. Tina Joemat Peterson (Minister of Agriculture), Ms. Barbara Hogan (Minister of Public Enterprises), besides other renowned ministers and dignitaries like Ms. Diana Pule Dr. Essop Pahad, Mr. Aziz Pahad, Mr. Malusi Gigaba, Mr. Mbhazima Shilowa and others.
  • Chaired the “South Africa-India International Trade Initiative” organised by South Africa High Commission in India and Dept. of Trade and Industry, South Africa.
  • Active participant as speaker of Conclaves on India-Africa project partnership that has been chaired by dignitaries like Dr. Rob Davies and Mr. Anand Sharma, Ministers of Commerce & Industries on both sides.
  • Sponsoring the mega show ‘Footprints’ by South African artists at Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi and Hyderabad. Sponsored coffee-table book titled ‘Dhanyavad India’ which is based on the struggle and contribution of Indian heroes to liberate South Africa. This book was released by Mr. Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki, Former President of Republic of South Africa.
  • Celebrated 100 years of launching Satyagrah (fight against apartheid) by Mahatma Gandhi in South Africa. This event was graced by Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson – UPA.
  • Organising and sponsoring India Business Conclave in Johannesburg during the Commonwealth Baton in South Africa and supporting various Road shows for “Brand India”.
  • Setting up an Old Age Home under the aegis of Sun Foundation near Johannesburg. Also supporting an HIV Aid Centre in Richards Bay, South Africa.

Vikramjit Sahney has been actively promoting Indo-South African trade, cultural and social relations through varied activities. He has the distinction of hosting Dr. Zuma and other important dignitaries at various conferences and seminars to strengthen cooperation with Africa.
