MP Vikram Sahney Urges Immediate Release of Swaroops of Guru Granth Sahib Held by Qatar Authorities

MP Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney has issued a critical appeal regarding the distressing situation faced by the Sikh community in Qatar. For the past eight months, two ‘swaroops’ of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the living Guru of Sikhs have been held in custody by the Qatar Police at the Alwakrah Police Station in Doha.

Dr. Sahney stated that he has raised this issue with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Indian Ambassador to Qatar Mr. Vipul to urgently engage with the Qatar government to facilitate the immediate release of the two holy ‘swaroops’.

Dr. Sahney stated that This matter has caused profound anguish among Punjabis both in Qatar and around the world. The Sikh community is deeply troubled by the ongoing detention of these sacred texts, which are currently being treated as case properties. Despite continuous efforts by the Sikh ‘sangat’ to secure their release, there has been no progress yet.

Dr. Sahney emphasizes the need for high-priority action to resolve this issue and restore the sacred texts to their rightful place.  He also urged the Embassy to reassure the Sikh community in Qatar of its unwavering commitment to protecting their right to worship freely.
