“MP Sahney Urges Punjab Government to Submit Project Proposals for ₹5,000 Crore to Centre for Assistance”
Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from Punjab has urged the Punjab Government to submit exhaustive project proposals worth ₹5,000 crore under the Centre’s “Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment 2025-26.”
Dr. Sahney stated that I have been following up on this scheme with the Union Finance Ministry for almost a year. After consistent efforts and detailed deliberations, Punjab has been allocated ₹994 crore under Part A of the scheme and has an opportunity to secure significantly more under the remaining categories.
Dr. Sahney informed that the revised guidelines released on 7th April 2025 provide ₹57,000 crore under Part A and another ₹63,000 crore under Parts B to E. Punjab can submit proposals under key components such as irrigation, rural connectivity, healthcare, renewable energy, pollution control etc. and projects in aspirational districts. These components present a transformative opportunity for our state to invest in sustainable and inclusive growth.
Dr. Sahney also pointed out the urgency of timely action, emphasizing that Last year, Punjab received ₹1,582 crore under this scheme. With ₹994 crore already allocated this year, the remaining opportunity must not be missed. Since utilization certificates must be submitted by 31st March 2026, I have requested the state government to form a task force to ensure comprehensive proposals are submitted before the end of April.
