Government Approves Upgradation and Modernisation of SCL Mohali: MP Vikram Sahney
In a written reply received by Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), during the ongoing Parliamentary session, Jitin Prasada the Minister of Electronics and Information Technology has provided an update on the modernization plan for the Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL) in Mohali.
Dr. Sahney had sought clarification on the Government’s earlier announcement in February 2024 about a ₹10,000 crore modernization plan for SCL and its timeline for Cabinet approval.
Dr. Sahney stated that as per the information received by him the Government has approved a comprehensive Semicon India Programme with a total allocation of ₹76,000 crore. Under this programme, the modernization of the Semi-Conductor Laboratory in Mohali is a key component. However, the Government is actively engaging with stakeholders to finalize the roadmap for upgrading this critical facility.
Dr. Sahney also said that The Semi-Conductor Laboratory in Mohali holds strategic significance for India’s technological and economic self-reliance and he has been raising this issue with the government from over a year now, with this written assurance He is hopeful for the modernization project and government must prioritize its submission to the Cabinet for approval,” Dr. Sahney added
