WPO Supersikh Vaisakhi Marathon for Drug-Free India

National capital witnessed an inspiring blend of fitness, festivity, and social commitment as the World Punjabi Organization and Sun Foundation, under the patronage of Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, organized the fourth edition of the ‘ WPO Vaisakhi SuperSikh 5K Marathon’ at Connaught Place.

Marking the joyous occasion of Vaisakhi, over 3000 participants from diverse age groups came together to run for the cause of a healthier and drug-free India under the theme “Say No to Drugs and Fit India”.

Dr. Sahney informed that this year’s marathon was dedicated to the memory of the legendary “Turban Tornado” Sardar Fauja Singh, who passed away last year in a tragic road accident and had been a regular and inspiring participant in this marathon. “The atmosphere was further enlivened with vibrant performances of Bhangra, Gidda, and Gatka, showcasing Punjab’s rich cultural heritage.” Dr. Sahney added

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sahney remarked that such initiatives reflect the collective resolve of society towards embracing fitness and rejecting substance abuse. He noted that Vaisakhi, a festival symbolizing new beginnings and resilience, serves as the perfect occasion to reinforce our commitment to both physical well-being and social responsibility. He also paid heartfelt tribute to Sardar Fauja Singh, stating that his life remains a timeless inspiration for people across generations to pursue fitness with discipline and determination and made an appeal to the Youth to follow Road Safety norms.

The event celebrated remarkable individual achievements. Mr. Abhishek secured the 1st position in the Male category, while Ms. Bharti emerged as the winner in the Female category. In a truly inspiring feat, 86-year-old Mr. Jagdeep Singh completed the 5 km marathon in just 46 minutes, earning admiration from all present for his determination and indomitable spirit.

Dr. Sahney felicitated the winners and participants, appreciating their enthusiasm and commitment. The WPO Vaisakhi SuperSikh Marathon continues to evolve as a dynamic platform that not only promotes fitness but also unites communities in a shared mission of health, awareness, and positive social change.
