Punjab Floods Declared National Calamity, MPs can pay from MPLADs
Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Padma Shri, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, welcomed the decision of the Government of India to list the Punjab floods as a National Calamity on the e-Sakshi portal.
Dr. Sahney had written to Shri Rao Inderjit Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, on 17th September 2025, urging immediate recognition of the Punjab floods as a national calamity and allow MPLAD funds to be given to Punjab for flood relief ensuring that the scale of devastation across nearly 2,300 villages is addressed with urgency.
Dr. Sahney informed that with this listing all Members of Parliament across India are now empowered to contribute towards Punjab’s flood relief through their MPLADS funds.
Dr. Sahney also said that he is writing to all his fellow parliamentarians to generously allocate from their MPLADS funds for Punjab Floods so that we can collectively rebuild Punjab, restore the livelihoods of our farmers, and bring relief to families affected by this unprecedented calamity.
