MP Vikram Sahney reiterates his demand for Upgradation of SCL Mohali
Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from Punjab today welcomed the Union Cabinet’s approval for the expansion of Continental Device India Private Limited’s discrete semiconductor manufacturing facility at Mohali under the India Semiconductor Mission.
Dr. Sahney also reiterated his long-pending demand to upgrade the Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL) in Mohali, recalling that the Government had already approved a ₹76,000 crore outlay for the development of the semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem in the country in 2024, under which 10,000 crore was earmarked for modernisation of SCL Mohali. But unfortunately, no progress has been made so far in this regard. Punjab’s full potential in the semiconductor value chain can only be realised with this long-awaited upgradation. Dr. Sahney added
Highlighting the transformative impact of the proposed upgradation, Dr. Sahney stated that If SCL Mohali is modernised with state-of-the-art fabrication and research facilities, it will attract top global technology partners, create thousands of high-value jobs for our youth, and make Punjab a hub for innovation and advanced manufacturing. This is not just an investment in infrastructure it’s an investment in the future of Punjab and in India, Central Government should expedite this modernisation project at the earliest.
