International President of World Punjabi Organisation (WPO)

Mr. Vikramjit Sahney is the International President of WPO, which is an international body to bring about "Punjabi Renaissance". It is a non-political body of prominent Punjabis from all over the globe. Formally launched by Mr. I.K. Gujral, former Prime Minister of India, it has an outreach in over 22 countries including UK, US, Canada, Middle East, South Africa, Thailand, Singapore and SAARC Nations to foster social, economic & cultural bondage and Universal Brotherhood.



Since its inception in 1999, WPO has undertaken several activities & projects like:

  • Commemorating 550th Birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji with year long celebrations undertaken by Mr. Sahney starting with Gurbani Recitation at Pravasi Kendra, New Delhi, as Universal Brotherhood year with Smt. Sushma Swaraj, then Hon’ble External Affairs Minister, GOI as Chief Guest.



The celebrations also included events in and out of country with sight and sound shows, exhibitions, thematic conferences, short videos, religious songs etc. showcasing the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji and ethos of Sikhism.


Some of these initiatives have been:

  • The Mystic Master (Adhyatamik Rehunama)- a short documentary film takes us through entire Life and Teachings of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji. Written by Navtej Sarna, and produced by Boby Bedi was premiered at Indira Gandhi Indoor stadium witnessed by over 30,000 audience . this short documentary takes us through his entire life and teachings through audio visual treat for the benefit of masses

  • Mr Sahney also produced and released song and public interest message on teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji that became part of tenets of Sikhism. These included ‘Rab Hai Ik Onkar; Mool Mantra; Kirat Karo; Women Empowerment etc.






  • Mr. Sahney also supported several other initiatives such as filming of documentary ‘Allegory - A Tapestry of Guru Nanak’s Travels’ and supporting the travel of Turban Traveller – tracing Nanak’s travel in his lifetime by undertaking travel, documenting & presenting it on TV channels. The fundamental idea behind the initiative has been to depict the life and various journeys of Guru Nanak Dev ji, imparting teachings through simple and meaningful actions and deeds. The exhibits coupled with seminar or thematic conference, Documentary film has reached out to masses to invigorate the ethos of Universal Brotherhood.


  • Tercentenary celebrations of Guru Gobind Singh ji disseminating teachings of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji of universal brotherhood, importance of hard work , sharing with underprivileged and gender equality, choosing reconciliation over recrimination etc.

  • Aid for natural calamity and war victims such as Covid -19, Tsunami, Nepal & Pakistan Earth Quake and Kargil war by donating truckloads of food, blankets, tents, woollen clothes etc.

  • To unite all punjabis with the national mainstream for progress and prosperity of the country, economically weak Punjabi students have been adopted and funded their tuition fee, books etc. and also facilitating their higher professional education.
  • Due to the efforts of WPO, Punjabi became the second official language of Delhi from 26th July 2003.
  • Organised health camps and launched Mobile Breast Cancer Detection Unit at Vice President's House.
  • Organising cultural events and celebrating festivals, especially Baisakhi each year to promote Punjabi culture and heritage and giving Samman Awards to the torch bearers.

  • Organizing light & sound & translate shows like ‘Satguru Nanak Pargatya’ ‘Sarbansdani’ ‘Bole So Nihal’ ‘Punj Dariya’, ‘Guru ManyoGranth’ &, Heer Ranjha’ & ‘Aye Watan Tere Liye’

  • Organising annual World Punjabi thematic conferences in India and abroad to promote rich punjabi culture, folk, language and literature to inculcate high social values. Also celebrates its glorious existence by organizing polo match, vintage car rally.

  • Organises book launches including autobiographies and felicitating ‘Jewels of Punjab’- prominent and globally acclaimed Punjabis. It is an effort to celebrate the people who never give up and remain in the forefront as torchbearer in their respective fields. This effort goes a long way in inspiring the common by highlighting the achievement of these living legends and bringing a definite change in the perception of society.


  • Leading peace delegations to neighbouring countries to foster social and cultural ties as also hosting delegations of Indo-Pak Peace Conference and cultural programmes under 'Paigam Mohobattan De' since 1998.


  • Strengthening socio-cultural bonds with various countries such as the UK, USA, Canada, Singapore, Thailand and Middle East by sponsoring and hosting various conferences and cultural programmes during the visit of Heads of State and other respected NRI dignitaries.
  • Organised Premier of patriotic films like ‘KESARI’ that was based on the true story of one of the bravest battles that India ever fought – the Battle of Saragarhi fought by 21 brave Sikhs against 10,000 Afghan invaders – and promoted it internationally.

  • Organising Gurpurab celebrations on the occasion of Guru Nanak's Birth Anniversary at the President's and the Prime Minister's residences and several other activities.


  • Installation of an equestrian statue of Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Parliament House of India etc.


  • WPO is running a drug de-addiction campaign in Northern India to create awareness against the menace of drug abuse.
  • Organize marriages of daughters of ’84 sikh riot victims and from Punjabi economically weak families.
