A delegation of British Parliamentarians headed by Rt. Hon. Keith Vaz, former Minister, along with select members of the Home Affairs committee was in New Delhi recently. Mr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Padma Shri - Chairman Sun Foundation, hosted a warm dinner reception for the delegation at Le Meridian Hotel to further boost the cordial relations between India and fraternity of Great Britain.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Sahney highlighted the importance of such interactions to encourage and enhance people to people contact to strengthen the synergy for better bondage. “This would pave the way for greater harmony and confluence of culture. This is particularly relevant in light of large Indian diaspora who have made Great Britain their home” said Mr. Sahney. He also talked about popularity of chicken tikka masala regarded as a national dish of Britain and Punjabi being second most spoken language in Britain. Popularity of Indian garments especially sarees and other ethnic wear and Bollywood music is also noteworthy. Reference was also made to emergence of Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother Show to which Mr. Keith Vaz moved a motion in House of Commons against racial discrimination.

Mr. Keith Vaz lauded the efforts of Mr. Sahney who does not miss any occasion to promote close ties between India and Britain. On this occasion Dy. High Commissioner Mr. Creon Butler also assured his co-operation and support in these efforts. Others present on this occasion included Mr. S.J.S. Chhatwal, former Chairman – UPSC, Mr. Tarlochan Sing, Member of Parliament, Mr. Bishen Singh Bedi, Cricketer and his wife, Mr. Satnam Arora, Kohinoor Rice, Mr. B.S. Kakar and many others.
