New Delhi- This year's commemoration of Nelson Mandela International Day comes at a moment of deep reflection on the life and work of Madiba, as the universally revered leader remains in the hospital. South African High Commission and Sun Foundation joined in to celebrate his birthday at India International Centre, New Delhi.

On this solemn occasion, Mr. Malusi Mogale & Mr. Vikramjit Sahney, the Acting High Commissioner & Honorary Consul for the Republic of South Africa for India announced the installation of the bust of Nelson Mandela at Nelson Mandela Marg, New Delhi. The replica life size poster of the statue was unveiled on this occasion. They also prayed for his speedy recovery giving the message to all to rise up and give tangible meaning to one's own feelings of concern by taking action on behalf of others. It was a celebration of the life of this living legend. Other attractions of the event included the reading out the message of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and also culltural event by several school children.

Speaking on the occasion, Vikramjit Sahney said, "The rationale is to commemorate great Mandela whose life has been dedicated to struggle for eradication of apartheid and advocacy for good governance which guarantees peace and equality for all. This day is commemorative in its campaign message "Action for people everywhere – to take responsibility for changing the world into a better place, one small step at a time, just as Mr. Mandela did."
This event was also attended by various other diplomatic Missions in New Delhi.
